The current volume attempts to collect some of the rich examples of the millennia-old Hungarian heritage, architectural feats and talent instead of providing the reader with a historical portrait gallery of a guidebook for tourists, we strove to compile a varied and captivating collection of Hungarian achievements. After a number of lengthy discussions and professional debates, we managed to agree on a range of symbols, traditions, natural wonders and idividuals who determine the way the Hungarians think of themselves and are judged by the world in general. Although our opinions were limited by the constraints of the volume, we hope we managed to gather some of the highly valued treasures that have a special place in the hearts of all Hungarians, filling them with pride.
